Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday with Niki Sepsas: Birth of the “Stars and Stripes” & the Star Spangled Banner
August 24 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
This history series with Niki Sepsas tells the remarkable story of American Independence celebrating our 250th anniversary. Provided through a grant from America 250 Alabama.
How did a seamstress from New Jersey (the eighth of her parents’ 17 children!) help George Washington re-design a flag that would become the banner for the fledgling Continental Army in 1776? How many times has the American flag changed over the years? And what led a Georgetown lawyer to pen 36 lines of poetry while watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 become our national anthem? This program highlights the birth of our flag and our national anthem.
