Reading of the Declaration of Independence and Rededication of Alabama’s Liberty Bell

On the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, Alabama officials and citizens will read our founding document aloud in a ceremony on the south lawn of the State Capitol. The state will also rededicate its replica Liberty Bell, symbol of the founding and a prominent destination for visitors to the Capitol. The program will begin at 5:00 PM on the south lawn of the Capitol. Shaded seating will be provided, and admission is free. In case of inclement weather, the program will move across Washington Street to the Alabama Department of Archives & History.
